What we love about this handbook section
🖤 Managers are often one of the biggest talking points within a business; too often promoted quickly and left to flounder. It’s so refreshing to see a company openly sharing guidance and support to managers on a handbook. You instantly sense that supporting manager growth is important at Checkly, which should be comforting to current employees, but also incredibly appealing to anyone considering joining the business one day. Awesome work from Checkly. 👏

Performance & Development Framework
As a leader you need to be approachable. Have a low threshold for people to come to you with problems. Listen actively. Empathy does not mean sympathy: you can still disagree.
As a leader, you need strive for utmost clarity at the top. Write full sentences. Speak clearly.
Think in "1,2,3". Set goals, plan, follow up. Repeat yourself as often as needed.
As a leader, you need to think three steps ahead. You need to mostly rely on yourself to plan and execute work. Don't react to circumstance, but be ahead of them. Don't wait for someone to mail you back: actively chase them.
As a leader, others look at you for insights and decision making. You need to have deep expertise in at least one part of your function (design, marketing, engineering etc.) that is indisputable.
