<aside> ℹ️ At Prolific, we believe that parental leave is important and both parents should enjoy this special part of life. Prior to parental leave, the primary caregiver should specify (to their best ability) whether they are planning to use the entire year, less than 52 weeks, or split the parental leave.

Primary caregiver (maternity) pay is paid to the primary caregiver of a new child and in most cases, this is paid to the new mother. By law, after giving birth a woman is required to take 2 weeks off for health-related reasons.

Secondary Caregiver Pay leave applies to the secondary caregiver of the child. This applies to spouses, civil partners, and partners (not grandparents).
If not splitting the leave:
Talk to your manager about taking additional unpaid leave.

Shared Parental Leave (SPL) aims to give parents greater flexibility when it comes to arranging childcare. Prolific wants to assist you in creating the best plan for you and your family. We suggest you talk to HR if you are interested in SPL and she can provide you with more information.
Mothers (Primary Caregivers)
Both Parents/Caregivers
You can take SPL at the same time or at different times. You can book one lot of SPL, or you can book up to 3 separate blocks, and the blocks can be continuous or discontinuous. Please note that the final 13 weeks are always unpaid (as are the final 13 weeks of maternity leave). Please contact us to discuss what you and your partner are planning to do. Prolific has to discuss with your partner’s employer. Please view the ACAS website to fill out the appropriate application form.
If you're an international hire, you'll be given the greater of the two - Prolific's parental leave or your country of residence's statutory parental leave.
Please keep in mind SPL might not be applicable in your country of residence because it requires compliance from both parties.
