⚙️ Setting up Loom
Loom offers several ways to record. You can download the desktop app or use it directly in your browser. There is also a mobile app available (iOS and Android) for those that want to record on the go!

👉 We highly recommend to use the desktop app to record Looms as it offers some additional features (HD recording, custom size recording, drawing tool etc. )

Before you start recording your videos, you should check your preferences.
The three fields on Loom’s user interface that you can interact with:
- Screen sharing options (what will be visible in the video)
- Your camera options (what camera you will be using and if it will be turned on or off)
- Microphone options (which microphone you will be using)
When recording a video, here are some options you :
- Screen shared and camera turned on (great for making a personal connection with the viewers while presenting)
- Screen only (maybe the focus of the video is only on the contents of the screen? maybe you are a bit shy? Or you’re just having a bad hair day? All those reasons are valid!)
- Cam only (sometimes we just need a “talking head” video - great for sending a personal messages or when presenting without a slide deck.)
When you choose to share your screen, you have three options at your disposal:
- Full screen (records your entire desktop including notifications)
- Specific window (records only the selected application window)
- Custom size (you can drag your cursor to select the area that you wish to record)

👉 Make sure that the right Camera and Microphone sources have been selected and working properly. You can see that in your Recording Settings.

In the top right corner you have three buttons:
- Home will take you to your Loom library.
- Notifications will show all the interactions others had with your videos.
- More will open up and additional menu that also contains Loom’s settings. Here you can toggle some additional options like highlighting mouse clicks, adjusting for low light environments or touching up your appearance.
